Project Overview

Turning Youth into Manufacturers is KISTEC’s flagship community-led skills development initiative aimed at transforming unemployed rural youth into skilled producers and entrepreneurs. Over a 12-month period, the project targets to empower at least 200 youth with hands-on, market-driven skills in tailoring, welding and metal works, electrical installation, motorcycle repair, and ICT.

The project goes beyond training by providing participants with startup kits, basic entrepreneurship skills, and ICT knowledge to enable them to start and sustain their own businesses. Community-based artisans and trainers play a central role in skills transfer, mentorship, and practical learning.

Who We Target

  • Rural and unemployed youth
  • Teen mothers and school dropouts
  • Women and girls
  • Persons with disabilities

What the Project Supports

  • Provision of training tools and equipment for all courses
  • Training materials and consumables such as fabrics, metals, spare parts, and computers
  • Startup kits to help graduates establish income-generating enterprises
  • Modest facilitation for community-based trainers and artisans

Expected Impact

  • 200 youth equipped with practical vocational and ICT skills
  • Increased youth-led manufacturing and self-employment
  • Improved household incomes and livelihoods
  • Stronger community ownership of youth development initiatives

KISTEC operates a production unit where trainees manufacture garments, metallic doors, windows, and other products for the local market. Income generated from this unit, combined with community contributions and alumni engagement, helps sustain training and startup support beyond the project period.

Budget Summary

The project requires an estimated USD 17,500 to implement over 12 months, with the majority of funds invested directly in training tools, materials, and startup kits.

Call to Action: Help Us Turn Youth into Manufacturers

Across rural communities in Uganda, thousands of young people—especially teen mothers, school dropouts, women, and persons with disabilities—have the desire to work but lack access to practical skills, tools, and startup support. At Kagadi Institute of Science and Technology (KISTEC), we are changing this reality by transforming young people into manufacturers, job creators, and self-reliant entrepreneurs.Through our Turning Youth into Manufacturers project, we aim to skill and empower at least 200 youth in 12 months in tailoring, welding and metal works, electrical installation, motorcycle repair, and ICT. Beyond training, we provide startup kits so graduates can immediately begin earning, supporting their families, and uplifting their communities. We invite donors, philanthropists, and partners who are passionate about youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods to stand with us. Your contribution—no matter the size directly supports training tools, materials, and startup kits that transform lives.

Every dollar counts.
A single donation can help purchase a sewing machine, a toolbox, ICT equipment, or materials that place a young person on a path to dignity and independence. By giving today, you are not just funding training—you are investing in hope, resilience, and community-led development.
