In a bid to produce an all-round student, the Kagadi Institute of Science and Technology (KISTEC) has set up an agriculture demonstration plot with the aim of widening students knowledge base in Agriculture.

In a conversation with KISTEC Principal Ms. Asiimwe Sanyu, the demonstration plots are aimed at equipping students  with various agricultural techniques and technologies, showcase new or improved crops. She added that the demonstration plots will also serve as a venue to research and test new methods alongside traditional ones.

Meanwhile, KISTEC Academic Registrar Mr. Mwinganiza Godfrey said that the demonstration plots will be used by the different people from within and outside Kagadi District to learn new Agriculture technics especially in urban centers.

Agriculture accounts for a large share of Uganda’s export earnings and its gross domestic product, as well as providing the main source of income for the vast majority of the adult population. The plots are local laboratories for agriculture technology and innovations.

Said Mwinganiza

He added that demonstration plots present an opportunity for students in different courses to gain an additional skill on top of what they enrolled for.

Flexibility is one of our values at KISTEC. Our students are given an opportunity to learn ICT and Agriculture for free. By the time the student leaves KISTEC, he/she is able to practice quality farming, as well as integrate ICT in business.

He added

Recently, KISTEC joined research4life program and has access to millions of recent discoveries in Agriculture.
